Kimmy, Where You Been?!

See what happened was......

Actually, I'm not even going to make up a fake excuse. The simple fact is that well..I was busy. Extremely busy. Sorting out school issues, applying for a new position for this upcoming school year, it was a lot. I was literally getting fussed out at for not posting anything (just chill..lol). But nonetheless, I am happy that I now have time to make new post daily.

So I got great reception for my previous post about Opportunists and for that I say a billion thank you's. I have another Real talk post coming up soon, but see with this next one I'm taking my time with it, because it's its on a subject that a lot of people don't like to openly talk about, but I'm not one to really hide from a topic, so you know I'm bringing it up.

Anywho, I really do miss posting, guys. It felt like I've been gone for months when it's really only been a little under two weeks. I won't keep you guys waiting this long again for a post that's for sure. Be on the lookout for a post coming shortly after this one, possibly tonight..(?) Maybe. lol okay if not tonight, its definitely coming tomorrow morning. Love you guys <3

From the Kitchen...

(Orange Pineapple Chicken with Wild Rice, and sautéed greens)

I get tired really easily of eating the same thing over and over, so when this meal popped up in my head, I knew I had to make something happen. This isn't your typical rubbery baked chicken. This cut of meat has been tenderized, grilled and lightly baked with mandarin oranges, pineapples and shredded spinach, all laying under a hickory, brown sugar sauce. We paired this meal with Wild Rice and sautéed greens, cooked long enough to ensure they wouldn't come out soggy and overcooked. Definitely an easy meal to make.

Man, I love It: The Beard.

Anyone, who's anyone knows I love me a nice beard, and these men definitely got it. Often associated with being haggard, this look can definitely be paired together with a nice suit, effortlessly ( just Google the rapper Common). This rugged, yet undoubtedly sexy accessory has definitely left me smitten. Yes, I love it.

So, you've got an Opportunist on your hands...

You probably know where I'm going with this...

Definition of an opportunist:
1. unprincipled resourceful person: somebody who takes advantage of something, especially somebody who does so in a devious, unscrupulous, or unprincipled way.

I felt the need to bring this topic up because well...we all know an opportunist whether in your life or someone else's and quite frankly you may not know what to do and you're tired of it but don't know how to handle the situation. This subject might be over a course of a few posts but let's get started.

Any who, when I say "opportunist", I, in no way, am talking about the person who strives for a better opportunity from a lower, poor situation. Oh no. I'm talking about the one who scopes out your life  and the others around them and swoops down like an eagle when that opportunity hits. It might be as simple as taking food the fridge that isn't theirs all the time to borrowing money on a continuous basis. Which brings me to a very important point: The Opportunist and Money. Yup, I'm going there.

Picture this scenario. You've recently gotten a new job, and you tell your friends and family all about it and everyone is excited. Some might be for all the right reasons, while there is that ONE individual who is scoping you out, the minute you made your announcement. It's normal for someone to ask how much *example career/ job* makes, if that person has no reason to ever hound you down for money, but some people are going to take that information and run with it.

So how do you spot out an opportunist when it comes to money:

1.) They hit you up with random text/calls.

Mind you, you probably haven't communicated with person in numerous months or even years. Yet, you get that "out of the blue" call and think nothing of it. Umm no. The conversation is going real nice and all of a sudden, Boom. There goes that question asked in many different forms but boils down to "Can I borrow some money?" Now, to some that doesn't seem like a problem, which on the surface seems fine. But when the demand for money seems hasty and continuous after the initial inquiry for money, you my friend have an opportunist on your hands.

2.) They want to know much you're taking home on payday.

I mentioned earlier that it's okay (sometimes) to ask how much a person makes. What makes it an issue is when you want to pry and insist how much you much and keeping tabs on it. I find this to the most TRIFLING thing an individual can do and deserves the biggest side eye. Aside from being in a marriage, its never anyone's business to know how much you make as an adult. When an individual uses your earnings as a crutch to fall back on, then there is a problem.

You now know how to spot an opportunist in the case with money, but how do you deal? When you see it becoming a habitual act, the answer is simple: Just say no. Now that's the simplest answer I could give, but for some it's not easy to say "No" to a person. The word "No" has been taken as a negative connotation, when it isn't. You can't always be a "yes ma'am/sir" all the time and say yes to every situation. Overtime it'll wear you down. In this case, an Opportunist is USING you and you have to put your foot down. It's perfectly fine to say no politely to someone, so never be ashamed to do it. What you should look out for is the character of that person after the fact and how they respond. If negative, then it's time to evaluate some things about that relationship. But I digress.

Ever had an opportunist in your life, or know of a situation where you or someone else was used solely for money? Feel free to share below in the comments.

Mellow Yellow...

(all photos courtesy of Pinterest)
Yellow is definitely a relaxed color in which you don't have to emphasize much effort into putting together. This color looks great through the seasons of Spring-Summer and it looks great on all skin tones, So go ahead brighten your wardrobe with a splash of yellow.

From the Kitchen...

(Turkey meatball subs on whole wheat with sweet potato fries)

Coming back from this trip, I could not wrap my mind around eating something outside of the house yet again ( i.e. Burger King and Wendy's) So, we opted for this meal instead and it was too good.

(S/o to my brother Kevin for this meal, you the real MVP.)
